Still warmed from the two Morocco adventures in March, I have since had some lovely feedback from guests who enjoyed their time enough to write about it. I’m grateful for Helen from Australia who wrote this lovely review:
‘Painted Desert – What an amazing sketching journey!
My Moroccan adventure began in a beautiful mosaic filled riad in Fes, then the first day’s drive to the desert was a highlight. The changing scenery with views of the snowcapped Middle Atlas Mountains in the distance were stunning. The whole trip was beautifully planned with a perfect balance of sketching time, travelling to visit some amazing desert locations and time to relax at the end of the day. We stayed in some very special places where it was worth getting up before breakfast to capture the early morning with some quick sketches. I really enjoyed using the sketching materials that Mary provided. It was fun to experiment with something a little bit new to me, and perfect for capturing the desert. The beautiful, handmade paper sketchbook is now a treasured memento of my holiday.
I stayed on for the optional extra two days, which I would highly recommend. After a morning’s guided tour of the medina in Fes, we had time to sketch from a riad roof terrace with views across the city. The following day we explored the small town of Bhalil. This was an amazing place and such a contrast to sketching in oases and the desert. Bhalil was absolutely a highlight! Colourful, quirky buildings and narrow winding laneways were wonderful to sketch and although it was just outside Fes, it was very much off the main tourist route and a fabulous way to end my trip.
Morocco was a wonderful country to visit for sketching, the light, colours and beautiful scenery. The food was always delicious and everywhere we stayed was very comfortable and welcoming. Thank you, Mary and Hamid (our Driver), for a wonderful holiday. I can’t wait to return for another sketching holiday in Morocco. ‘
The Bhalil extension is now offered at the beginning of the holiday, because afterwards there’s the chance to sketch the mountains and blue town of Chefchaouen. It’s still a recommended extra, though, and as Helen says, a great place to paint.
Vistas can’t wait for you to return on another holiday either, Helen!
